At Kobe Base Masonic Club

Prior to Installation of Successor to Bro. A. H. Riddell who did not return.

Bro. J. Levy presided at 5 ordinary meetings, from No. 628 on 5/9/46 to No. 632 on 2/1/47 and also at an emergency meeting on 21/11/46.

An extract of the minutes of the 628th meeting containing the text of Bro. J. Levy’s address is attached.

Bro. C. W. Lord presided at an emergency meeting on 30/1/47 and at No. 633 held on 6/2/47 and Bro. C. W. Nye presided at an emergency meeting on 20/2/47.

During this period there were 13 initiations, 8 passings, 4 raisings and 10 affiliations.

Bro. S. F. McCaskey: Installed at 72nd Installation Meeting on 6/3/47.

Installing Officers:— Bro. G. W. Colton, M. assisted by Bros. Lord, Fisher and Swadling, Offices not specified.

Bro. McCaskey presided at 12 ordinary meetings, No. 634 on 4/4/47 to No. 645 on 4/3/48 and at emergency meetings on 29/5/47, 11/7/47 and 16/10/47. The ceremony of the Mark degree was performed at the 644th meeting but no returns were made to G.L. until many years later.

In the absence of Bro. McCaskey, Bro. A. N. Petersen presided at No. 646 on 1/4/48 and No. 647 on 6/5/48 and Bro. C. H. Woodward presided from No. 648 on 7/10/48 to No. 652 on 3/3/49 (5 meetings) and at emergency meetings on 26/6/48, 12/7/48 and 24/1/49.

During this period there were 35 initiations, 35 passings, 27 raisings, 16 advancements and 5 applications.

Bro. C. H. Woodward: Installed at 73rd Installation Meeting on 26/3/49.

Presided at 10 regular meetings from No. 653 on 4/4/49 to No. 662 on 6/2/50 as well as emergencies on 20/4/49 and 21/7/49.

During this period there were 15 initiations, 16 passings, 15 raisings and 3 affiliations.

Bro. H. H. Kulpe: Installed at 74th Installation Meeting on 25/2/50.

Presided at 9 regular meetings from No. 663 on 6/3/50 to No. 671 on 2/4/51 and also at an emergency meeting on 8/1/51. Bro. C. H. Woodward presided at an emergency meeting on 8/5/50 and another on 17/6/50, the latter being held at B.C.O.F. Hqrs. Kure, under dispensation.

During this period there were 15 initiations, 12 passings, 18 raisings and 3 affiliations.

Bro. J. F. Wallace: Installed at 75th Installation Meeting on 11/4/51.

During Bro. Wallace’s period of office, there were 7 regular meetings from No. 672 on 7/5/51 to No. 678 on 20/3/52, Bro. C. H. Woodward deputizing at Nos. 673 and 677 and Bro. H. H. Kulpe at Nos. 676 and 678.

During this period there were 3 affiliations only.

The Annual Report and Accounts for 1951 were presented at the 678th Meeting on 20th March 1952. There is no record in the minutes or elsewhere of reports or accounts for the period from the resumption in 1946 to 31st December 1950.

The Report shows that, despite the extremely great number of initiations and affiliations up to Spring of 1951, the membership at 31st December 1951 was only as follows:— Life 10, Life Absent 22, Active 31. This was because so many of these initiated were transient military personnel.

The Accounts showed that the General Fund stood at ¥720,752.44 and the Benevolent Fund at ¥270,000 at 31st December 1951.

Bro. K. M. Pate: Installed at 76th Installation Meeting on 12/4/52.

The Peace Treaty was signed in April, 1952 and the Occupation came to an end. The Masonic Lodges and the Club were immediately placed under pressure to vacate the premises at the former Club Concordia.

However, it was possible to hold 3 regular meetings, from No. 679 on 17/4/52 to No. 681 on 16/10/52 and 1 emergency meeting on 22/5/52 before we had to vacate.

During this period, 1 brother was initiated, 2 raised and 2 affiliated.
